Ireland is world – leading in “producing“ and exporting greyhounds. With the help of government subsidies, the Irish greyhound industry annually produces approximately 25,000 greyhounds as compliant tools for the racing and betting business. However, every greyhound will sooner or later become a useless “loser”, and is doomed to destruction.
The sanctions callously imposed on “losers” blatantly reveal the master race’s scorn for innocent animal slaves.
1. Normally, unwanted pets and stray animals are conveniently handed over to a governmental killing institution, the dog pound which, ironically enough, is financed by animal welfare funds, where they are “destroyed” after a week´s reprieve; this is not the case with greyhounds, they are eliminated within hours!
I. The merciless conditions, which caused us
to establish Pro Animale Ireland
The first and until today the only sanctuary for greyhounds in Ireland, founded in 1998

II. How did we put our help into action?
The first step, in 1995, was the establishment of a sanctuary and quarantine ward. Three years later, after immense difficulties, we were able to bring to life the first and until today only sanctuary for greyhounds in Ireland, “Avalon”.
III. Rescuing and rehabilitating greyhounds...
.. from the dog pound, buying them off from the “sales”, the slave markets for greyhounds, as well as from gipsy camps, but mostly adopting abandoned and helplessly straying greyhounds, which are without exemption in a deplorable state: these are the main tasks of our engagement.

2. Another frequent fate of a loser is to become a desired test animal in the laboratories of the pharmaceutical industry. Their well-developed cardio – pulmonary system, in addition to their humble behaviour, makes them welcome objects for abhorrent experiments.
3. Most “losers” inevitably end on the international race dog market, where they are worn out on the racetracks to their complete breakdown. Unimaginable tragedies, callously covered up by unscrupulous manipulators, already happen on their long transport of 1200 – 2000 kilometres (750 to 1250 miles): the cages are so small that the animals can neither stand nor sit, at temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius the greyhounds are on the verge of dying with thirst. The scandal is that on these transports controls are almost non- existent since greyhounds are classified as freight and not as livestock.
We are proud of our beautiful new stable

Contrary to many preconceptions, greyhounds are wonderful, affectionate family dogs.
For more than 15 years now we have obliged ourselves to rescue these dogs, which otherwise would become effective and profitable tools of he racing and betting business - and which sooner or later would fall prey to destruction.
we have just been celebrating our 12th anniversary...
Dear Reader,
maybe you will lose your heart to one of our animals in charge.
